So let us look at both the meaning of Passion and Excellence and a scripture to anchor those two words.
Passion (from the Ancient Greek verb πάσχω (paskho) meaning to suffer) is a term applied a very strong feeling about a person or thing. Passion is an intense emotion compelling feeling, enthusiasm, or desire for something.
John 2:17 (NLT)
Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.”
Acts 1:3 (KJV) To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
Questions to reflect on… What is your passion? What one thing do you want to do with your life that would fill the empty parts of your heart and soul? What is your relationship with Jesus? What steps are you going to take from this point forward to step out of your comfort zone and follow Jesus with passion?
Excellence is a talent or quality which is unusually good and so surpasses ordinary standards. It is also used as a standard of performance. The Ancient Greeks had a concept of arete which meant an outstanding fitness for purpose. This occurs in the works of Aristotle and Homer. Aristotle once said. “We are what we repeatedly do . . . excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Therefore make excellence a habit this year even in the small things pursue excellence with a passion.
John Maxwell says Excellence is the gap between average and exceptional. It’s the ability to exceed expectations and consistently deliver superior quality. In other words we can all achieve excellence if we decide to make a HABIT of small incremental changes in our behaviour, attitude, thoughts and words in our daily walk with Christ.
REMEMBER THIS…….
Watch your
thoughts, they become words
Watch your words; they become actions
Watch your actions; they become habits
