Don’t misunderstand the meaning of an “Inept” leader nor see them as week for in some cases they are extremely dominant. A dominant leader predominately keeps themselves to themselves which often results in people being unsure when they meet the leader, are often anxious when meeting and live with fear. Nonetheless we are all have different personality types the dominant leader has difficulty emotionally for if it is out of their control they are like a fish out of water, in other words they can’t cope because they are outside their environment and not in control.
To help you there are five key abilities to be an effective transformational leadership:
- The ability to manage yourself ~ emotionally and spiritually
- The ability to know where you are going and setting challenging targets
- The ability to develop and sharing a realistic vision ~ all church members know where they are and where they are going and the impact on the community
- The ability to effectively manage resources ~ including physical, financial and people resources, in terms of people resources delegating tasks to individual setting parameters of operation, behaviours and targets to achieve as well as building effective teams
- The ability to mentor and develop others i.e. passing leadership tasks to other. Leaders ought to be developing other to lead e.g. Mosses passing the baton to Joshua
It is always in my personal view that leading and managing people resources is one of the most difficult and challenging skills to develop, yet many leaders do not or will not change, simply because this is how it’s been done and will always be done.
Where are we now, well we have moved on from a church that solely focuses on getting the leader onto the world stage and does not recognise the talents within and at times has abused people. We are following God, who led us out of a self-absorbed church, walking into all He planned for us it is the right time for it is God’s time. We are seeing God move and also breakthrough in all aspects of our lives, we ran a charity that is impacted the community which incidentally was offered to a church who turned it down, despite building a structure to transform the community, which was extremely odd especially as we had me with a board member of the church who was delighted that God had led us to the church for this purpose.
So church its is really time that we ended the myopic leadership style that is witnessed in many churches today. It is time to stand up for Jesus act and think as one body, neither thousands of churches nor millions of individuals. Until we do this we will not be an effective body for Christ. Today England is in the grip of a spiritual war and many are still going to church on a Sunday and acting as if there is no problem. It is time to stand, it is time to put individual needs to one side, it is time to end the self promoting and promote Jesus, it is time for you as leaders and individuals to step up to the plate and make a stand!!!
