Giving up too soon!!

Giving up means you will be yielding, surrendering, relinquishing, relinquishment

As a human being I’m sure that there are times when for a brief moment we may feel like giving up, yielding to what seems an impossible mountain to get over.

We are called to be conquers, Romans 8:37 tells us ‘No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us’. Jesus loves us and calls all not some but all of us to lead!! Remember at the basic level you are called to lead YOU, and care called to be the best person you can be and not what others tell our you are.

Ok so let’s visualise this mountain of yours, what does it look like?  How do you feel when you see the mountain?  What thoughts, feelings and behaviours do you exhibit?

Ok so let’s work at reframing (meaning to think or see your mountain as something different) this mountain.  Get into a quiet place and start by visualising your mountain, its size, its height, its width, and reflect what emotions are prominent?

Then visualise our Lord laying his hand on your mountain and slowly reducing the mountain, listen to your feelings etc as the mountain is reduced, feel the joy as He reduced your mountain, He is doing it not you, that’s the difference .

Finally see the mountain as a mole hill, yes a little and possibly annoying mole hill the kind gardeners don’t like showing up in their garden. This is a great example of visualisation as most gardeners if they see a mole hill and they will take a spade and SPLAT even the mole hill will be reduced to nothing.

Let’s look at ‘The SPLAT’ story….

A man met a guru in the road. The man asked the guru – ‘Which way should I go to achieve success?’

The robed, bearded sage said nothing, but he pointed to a place in the distance.

The man, thrilled by the prospect of quick and easy success, rushed in the appropriate direction. Suddenly, there came a loud ‘Splat.’

Soon, the man limped back, tattered and stunned, assuming he must have misinterpreted the message. He repeated his question to the guru. ‘Which way should I go to achieve success?’

The guru again pointed silently in the same direction.

The man obediently walked off once more. This time the ‘splat’ was deafening. When the man crawled back, he was bloody, broken, tattered, and irate.

‘I asked you which way I should go to achieve success,’ he screamed at the guru.

‘I followed the direction you gave me, and all I got was splatted!  No more of this pointing! Talk!’

Only then did the guru speak. What he said was: ‘Success is that way. Just a little past splat.’

Three scripture to help us keep going …..

  1. Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
  • 2 Chronicles 15:7 But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.”
  • Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Remember the mole hill and be encouraged when you are faced with a mountain.
