How often do we as individuals strive to get the best? There’s nothing wrong with wanting to have the best, my question is, in doing so, do we strive, get anxious, get stressed and look to the container rather than what’s inside.
The bible tells us in;
1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.’ In short who do we rely on ourselves or God, hey I’m sure you will all say God!
Search yourselves, the key is do we over estimate ourselves? Search me oh God to see if I am clean and in;
Romans 12:3 (AMP) For by the grace (unmerited favour of God) given to me I warn everyone among you not to estimate and think of himself more highly than he ought [not to have an exaggerated opinion of his own importance], but to rate his ability with sober judgement, each according to the degree of faith apportioned by God to him.
So don’t fool yourself thinking you are more than what you are, don’t measure your success by others, financial wealth is not a measurement, personally it’s who you influence.
This brief story I hope will get you to reflect on what’s on the inside not the outside.
God’s Coffee (short story)
A group of former students, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups – porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:
“If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.
Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups… And then you began eyeing each other’s cups.
Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live.
Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us.”
Reflect and ponder on the above and do change if you see yourself in the above and let God work for you.
God brews the coffee, not the cups………. Enjoy your coffee!
“The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.”
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.
